Green Tripe – The Ultimate Superfood for Pets
Green Tripe is known as the ultimate superfood for dogs and cats for its endless list of health benefits.
Breeders and pet lovers rave about the improvements in their pet’s health, appearance, and disposition when eating tripe, and tripe enthusiasts jokingly say “green tripe can bring dead dogs back to life”. It may seem too good to be true, but the facts speak for themselves.
But before we get into all the benefits let’s mention the elephant in the room or in this case, the cow. The only real downside of tripe – if you can call it that, is the aroma.
The rumors of how bad green tripe smells are not an exaggeration, honestly it smells like a barn, but your furry family member will think it’s the most exciting thing you’ve ever put in their bowl! How to Feed Tripe to your Dog or Cat
Green tripe is really easy to feed because even finicky eaters love the taste. We recommend our Green Tripe to be fed as a replacement meal once a week, or added to your pet’s meals a few days a week using Furchild’s Non-Skid, Stainless Steel Pet Bowls.
Tips to control odor:
- We recommend keeping the tripe frozen until the last minute, then thawing it just enough to remove the desired amount and returning the package to the freezer and storing it in an air-tight container.
- If you have a fenced backyard, porch, or balcony, have your pet eat outdoors while you breathe comfortably indoors.
Trends in Tripe – Be Warned, Quality Differs
Furchild ensures our Tripe is sourced from reputable farms and is the highest quality on the market, however, there are variations that range from okay to bad. Here is an overview of the variances in quality and what to avoid.
- Bad – White Tripe sold in supermarkets – don’t feed it to your beloved pets. This tripe has been cleaned, steamed, and chemically bleached. All the goodness found in Green Tripe is removed and in this state, it’s harder to digest and contains very little nutrition in comparison to unprocessed tripe.
- Okay – Canned Tripe is not nearly as beneficial as raw. The good enzymes, beneficial bacteria, and other fragile nutrients are destroyed in the cooking process due to the high temperatures endured during the canning process.
- Good Bad – Local abattoirs – Depending on the quality ruminant found nearby, the nutritional properties can vary – a lot! In the UAE, animals raised for human consumption don’t graze on open fields of grass like they do in other counties. Instead, these animals are raised on animal feed (not fresh grass). As a result, the content found in their stomachs is much different than those of a grass-fed animal.
- Better – Treats – Frozen, ground green tripe, or freeze-dried tripe treats that can be from any source, not pasture-fed (grass-fed) animals.
